WHO IS BOB STEVENS?
The answer was terse and to the point:
“No! Not unless you want to major in a subject that we don’t offer here.”
The Volleyball coach at nearby Santa Monica College was slated to head the upcoming Olympic team. A first rate player, Bob had approached the counselor to request a transfer with hopes of increasing his chances of going to ‘The Games’…but there was unexpected ‘red tape’.
He asked the stern man in front of him, ‘What are my options?’. The counselor responded, “Architectural Welding or Photography.”
Although Bob was the starting Setter both years he played at SMC, he did not make the Olympic team…but something else happened that changed his life.
The boy who spent hours reading and crafting stories from a young age, who loved to look through his telescope at the night sky and ponder, discovered that he had a skill and affinity for capturing and creating images of his own making.
Bob’s love for combining written and spoken words with visuals, has empowered and inspired him in a long career that includes Live Action. Shooting for many major brands in both mediums, he has garnered awards both the U.S. and abroad.
Along the way, Bob earned a DGA card, rode his Husqvarna across a 25 yard wide river in Baja, photographed Grace Jones, Devo and Adam Ant for a Honda campaign, was declared ‘Photographer of the Year’ in Adweek’s Western Edition,
had three children, directed TV commercials, documentary shorts and corporate films, learned to sail and plays the Ukulele and Conga drums.
Bob’s likes to say,“What’s Next?, and also promotes the Meme that “Bob spelled backwards is Fun!”.
He thrives in the environment of a team.
Just like volleyball.
